Notes for Games Played 07/06/08

Posted on: July 7, 2008 9:06 pm

Straight to the Game Notes with a quick post.

"Texas OF Michael Young (groin) was a late scratch and Bradley, one of four Texas players selected to the AL All-Star team, left in the sixth with left knee tendinitis. The injury was not serious."  This is the same injury that sidelines Young from time to time.  This will likely cause him to be scratched from the line up unexpectedly for the balance of the season.  The only real way to heal a groin injury is rest - something an All Star us not likely to receive.  As for Bradley, I'm amazed he has been as durable has he has this year.  This doesn't seem to be a big deal.  Like Young, its something Bradley will get therapy for and deal with for the rest of the year.

"The Phillies placed RHP Tom Gordon on the disabled list with right elbow inflammation. LHP R.J. Swindle was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to take his spot." The former Flash Gordon hasn't been much of a factor in fantasy for a long time.  A 5.16 ERA isn't helping
his owners and 29.7 innings isn't much of a factor.

"Kelly Shoppach has hit well as the Indians' regular catcher with Victor Martinez on the DL. He's batting .310 (22-for-71) with eight doubles, four homers and 13 RBI in 21 games since Martinez's injury in the middle of June, but Wedge said the team hasn't talked about moving Martinez to 1B once he's healthy. The Indians are still evaluating Shoppach and his ability to play close to every day."  I think V-Mart will likely get his position back.  With the trade of Sabathia to the Brewers, the Indians have pulled the plug on the season.  There's no reason to tick off V-Mart.  If anything, they will likely give him the time he needs to get back to his old form - or something close to it.

Streakers! "Yadier Molina is batting .362 (17-for-47) during his hitting streak...Alexi Casilla stretched his hitting streak to 13 games...Matt Holliday has a 10-game hitting streak."

Fully clothed! "Jim Edmonds, 0-for-7 with four strikeouts and thrown out at the plate in the eighth inning Saturday, did not play in the series finale...Brendan Ryan is hitless in his last 13 at-bats...Reds SS Jeff Keppinger extended his slump to 0-for-22...Astros CF Michael Bourn is hitless in last 19 official at-bats. Bourn had a sacrifice bunt in the 16th, but he struck out three times."
About It Game From the Game Notes
At the end of nearly every game recap writers place the "Game Notes." Game Notes are nothing more than factoids or extraneous information that the writer felt was interesting or simply didn't fit within the fabric of the story. There's great fantasy information to be found. You just have to know where to look.
